Who we are
Ment connects people looking for an apartment (“renters”) with verified locals (“menters”) who view the apartment for them. Ment is operated by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], [REGISTERED ADDRESS], Israel (“Ment”, “we”). We are responsible for the personal data described here.
This policy covers the Ment app and the website at ment-app.com.
What we collect
Your account
- Your phone number, which you sign in with. We send you a one-time code by SMS.
- Your name, profile photo, date of birth (to check you’re 18 or over), the city you live in, your time zone, the languages you speak and your app language.
- How you heard about us, if you tell us.
If you’re looking for a place
- Your search: areas, move-in month and budget.
- Apartments you send: the address and its location on the map, the listing link, when you’re free for a call, and what you want checked. When you paste a link, our server opens that page once to read its title, photo and price.
- The landlord’s name and phone number, if you or your menter add them.
- If you use apartment alerts: your saved searches, the listings you save, and your Telegram chat if you choose to get alerts there.
If you’re a menter
- The area you work in. We store it as an approximate area, never your exact home, and never show it to anyone.
- The phone number you get paid on with Bit or PayBox.
- Whether you’re taking jobs, your estimated arrival time on a job, the jobs you complete, and cancellations.
Verification
- Menters send a selfie and a photo of their ID, and do a short video call with us. Renters can send a selfie for a verified badge.
- We delete the selfie and ID images once we’ve reviewed them. We keep only the outcome, such as “ID checked” and the date. We don’t record the video call.
Viewings and reports
- Photos and short clips your menter takes with the in-app camera, each stamped with the time and the location where it was taken, so the report can show how far from the address it was. Checklist answers, notes and the verdict.
- Ratings you give and get after a viewing, and anything you tell us in a dispute.
- Whether you took the apartment, if you answer when we ask.
Your device
- Location, only while the app is open and only if you allow it: for menters, to stamp photos and show the route to the apartment. We don’t track location in the background.
- A push notification token, so we can tell you about your viewings.
- For menters: which jobs you see, open and accept, so we can show the right jobs to the right people.
The website and waitlist
- If you join the waitlist: your email address and whether you’re looking or want to be a menter.
- The website uses no cookies, ads or analytics. Our host keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security. Fonts load from Google Fonts, which sees your IP address.
When you contact us
- Your email or message and anything you include in it.
How we use it
- To run viewings: match your request with a menter nearby, let you follow it, deliver the report and help you pay. This is needed to provide the service you asked for.
- To keep people safe: verify menters, enforce our code of conduct, handle disputes, and prevent fraud and spam. This is our legitimate interest, and yours.
- To improve Ment: understand which jobs get taken and how fast, so more requests get a menter. We use this in aggregate.
- To tell you things: notifications about your viewings, alerts you set up, and for waitlist sign-ups one email when we open in your area.
- Because the law says so: when we have to keep records or answer a lawful request.
We don’t sell personal data, share it for advertising, or use it to make automated decisions that have legal effects on you.
Who sees what
The other person on a viewing
- Your menter sees your first name, photo, age, languages and rating, the apartment address, what you want checked, and your phone number, so they can reach you and video-call you.
- You see your menter’s name, photo, rating, verification badges and their arrival time. For payment you see the number they get paid on.
- Menters browsing open jobs see only the street and an approximate area until one of them takes the job, when the apartment is lived in.
- The landlord’s details are shown only to the renter and the menter on that viewing.
- Ratings show on profiles to other users.
People you share a report with
You can create a view-only link to a report. Anyone with the link can see it until you revoke it.
Outside Ment
Video calls happen on WhatsApp and payments on Bit or PayBox. Those apps are run by other companies under their own privacy policies. Ment doesn’t record calls or process payments.
When required
We may disclose data if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a merger or sale of Ment, in which case this policy keeps applying to your data.
Service providers
These companies process data for us, only to provide their service:
- Convex: our database, file storage and servers.
- Twilio: sends sign-in codes by SMS.
- Expo, Apple and Google: deliver push notifications.
- Telegram: delivers alerts, only if you connect it.
- Vercel: hosts this website.
- Zoho: our support email.
- Google Fonts: serves the website’s fonts.
Some of these providers store data outside Israel, including in the United States and the European Union. When data leaves Israel, the EU or the UK, we rely on the legal transfer mechanisms that apply, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Your account: until you delete it.
- When you delete your account: we delete your name, photo, phone number, verification results, search, menter area, personal link, and the reports and photos you received, right away. Any open requests are cancelled.
- Kept without your name: ratings you gave and got stay as “Former user”, so other people’s scores stay fair. Records of past viewings are kept without your name in case of a dispute, for [RETENTION PERIOD].
- Verification images: deleted once reviewed.
- Waitlist emails: until we’ve told you we’re open, or until you ask us to remove yours.
- Support emails: as long as we need them to help you, then deleted.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or get a copy. You can also object to how we use it, or ask us to limit it. Most of your profile you can edit or delete yourself in the app.
To make a request, write to support@ment-app.com from any address, with the phone number on your account. We may ask you to confirm it’s you. We answer within 30 days.
These rights come from Israel’s Protection of Privacy Law, and for people in the EU or UK, the GDPR. If you’re unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority, or to the data protection authority where you live.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and stored with our providers, who encrypt it at rest. Private details such as phone numbers, landlord contacts and verification data sit apart from what other users can query, and only a few people at Ment can see them, when they need to. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we’ll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Age
Ment is for people 18 and over. We check your date of birth when you sign up and don’t knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change matters, we’ll tell you in the app before it applies.
